Ingredients for Instant Pot Cabbage

1 head of cabbage
1 small onion, sliced
2 tsp of garlic
salt and pepper for taste
1/4 cup of water
1/2 cup of water on the bottom.

Directions for Instant Pot Cabbage

Wash your head of cabbage and remove the outer layer of cabbage leaves

Cut the cabbage into 3 large pieces (you may cut into smaller pieces as needed to fit into your Instant Pot liner.

Place a trivet into the bottom of your Instant Pot Liner

Add 1 cup of water to the bottom of your pot

Place the cabbage in an oven-safe bowl or dish that will fit on top of the trivet inside your Instant Pot Liner.  If you do not have a bowl for this, you may place the cabbage on top of the trivet directly inside your Instant Pot liner.

Add 1/3 cup of water, onion, garlic, and a dash of salt and pepper to the pot in pot along with your cabbage.  If you are not using a pot in pot, you may skip the water in this step.

Close the Instant Pot lid and set to seal.

Adjust temperature to Steam Mode for 10 minutes.  If you do not have Steam Mode on your pressure cooker, you may set to low pressure for 5 minutes.

Once time is up and the cabbage has completed cooking cycle, you will allow the pressure to naturally release for 10 minutes, then manually release any remaining pressure.

Open lid safely, and serve.

  1. Can I place a steamer basket in on the trivet to hold the cabbage or does it need to be something without holes? If I can’t, what do you recommend? I’m not sure what I’m allowed to put inside the pressure cooker, I’m new to this! thanks!

  2. I’ve always cooked my cabbage with bacon or fat back, could this be used for seasoning instead of the garlic. Sorry I’m new to the IP.

  3. In a regular electric pressure cooker, what would the “steam” setting translate to?
High? Thanks! My husband is super excited for me to try this. 😉

  4. I plan to cook my cabbage with 2 ham hocks, I plant to cook the ham hocks for 10 min, then after the IP cools down add the cabbage a cook as instructed, do U thing this is a good plan,?

    • I personally like my ham hock falling off the bone. So I would do 20-30 minutes with some water to make broth. Then removed most of the broth and then do the cabbage.
