Cabbage in the Instant Pot

A favorite in our house is cabbage in the Instant Pot.  We love it because of the taste mainly but then also it is nice the house doesn’t end up smelling like cabbage.  So for us it is amazing since the smell of cabbage makes my stomach sick. So if you are like me or just love cabbage you should try out this recipe.

What you need. 

1 head of cabbage 
1/3 cup of onion
2 tsp of garlic
salt and pepper for taste
1/4 cup of water
1/2 cup of water on the bottom.

How to make

The first thing you do is wash off your cabbage.  Then if you need to take off the first layer of the skin on the cabbage.  Next, you will cut the cabbage in half and then cut into 3 pieces.  Place your trivet that came with your pressure cooker.  Plus the 1/2 cup of water to the bottom of your pot. Then simple place in a dish that you can place your pressure cooker.  Add in your water then your onion on top with your garlic, salt, and pepper.    Next, close your pressure cooker’s lid and turn on to steam mode for 10 minutes.  Once the pressure cooker beeps you will let the pressure naturally release for 10 minutes and then let out the rest.  Open the lid and enjoy this amazing side.

  1. Can I place a steamer basket in on the trivet to hold the cabbage or does it need to be something without holes? If I can’t, what do you recommend? I’m not sure what I’m allowed to put inside the pressure cooker, I’m new to this! thanks!

  2. I’ve always cooked my cabbage with bacon or fat back, could this be used for seasoning instead of the garlic. Sorry I’m new to the IP.

  3. When would I add sliced smoked sausage? Have always made Southern Cabbage and it has sausage in it but this sounds quicker!!
